How to chair a session at EU PVSEC 2020 in 3 easy steps

Step 1 – Webinar “How to chair a session at EU PVSEC2020 online”

As a chairperson of a session of the upcoming EU PVSEC 2020 online, we would like to invite you to participate in our Webinar “How to chair a session at EU PVSEC2020 online” on Wednesday, 12 August, from 15:30 – 16:30 CEST.

The webinar is designed to familiarize you with the general technical requirements when chairing a session at the EU PVSEC 2020 and to provide you with some general guidelines. We would like to help you to eliminate any doubts and give you the opportunity to clarify any questions and concerns you may have regarding your function as a chairperson. All the information provided during the webinar including your input, will be compiled in a “Guidelines for Chairpersons document” that will be shared with you in the next weeks.

To summarize your duties as a Chairperson:

  • moderating the session and introducing each speaker
  • keeping an eye on the clock and enforce that timings are respected
  • assessing the questions from the audience and pass relevant ones to the speakers
  • writing a brief summary highlight of the session

The webinar will be conducted by Dr. Heinz Ossenbrink, who will guide you through the platform called Streamyard. From easy one-click access to the activation of your microphone and camera, we will make sure that you can access and use the platform without any problems. Supposedly simple things can appear very complicated under certain circumstances, that’s why we want to make sure you feel comfortable with using Streamyard. This broadcasting platform, besides the official EU PVSEC Conference platform, is accessible only for speakers and chairpersons. Regular attendees will watch the presentations via the Conference platform.

How does the communication with the Speakers work and how do you select the audience’s questions? We will provide answers to all your questions and show you how to use the platform and all its functions.

Step 2 – Personal technical check

This webinar serves as an overview of the presentation platform. To ensure a smooth session and to give you the opportunity to try out the functions yourself in advance, we also offer personal technical checks for the Streamyard platform.

These will take place from:
24 August - 28 August
31 August - 04 September

You can select a time a slot in which you can try out Streamyard yourself, guided by an operator. Information about registration for the technical checks will follow soon per e-mail and on our website.

Step 3 – Final check 15 minutes prior to your presentation

To be on the safe side on the day of your session and to take away the nervousness about technical problems, we kindly ask you to be present 15 minutes prior to the start of the session for a final check. Please keep in mind that this check can`t substitute the personal technical check from step 2.

To be fully prepared for the EU PVSEC 2020 online, we strongly advise you to take advantage of all three preparation sessions. The webinar is recorded and the video will be available on the EU PVSEC website, and depending on the attendance, we might offer an additional webinar date.

Technical recommendations for the EU PVSEC 2020 online

Finally, we recommend to meet the following technical requirements:

  • A current version of Chrome or Firefox must be used to participate. MS Edge or Safari currently do not fully support the WebRTC protocol used.
  • Make sure that the WLAN signal is sufficiently good, or even better, connect your computer to the network by cable.
  • For good audio quality, a headset or external microphone should be used.
  • Restart your PC 15 Minutes before the technical check.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the Webinar.
