Message from Prof.
Dr. Wim Sinke
are pleased to forward this inspiring message from Prof. Dr. Wim
Sinke, Principal Scientist Solar Energy at TNO Energy
Transition and member of the EU PVSEC Executive Committee, to our loyal PV
development of photovoltaic solar energy (PV) in the past decades has
surpassed expectations of sceptics and optimists alike. Spectacular cost
reduction, impressive performance enhancement and strong market growth have
positioned PV as one of the main building blocks, if not the foundation of
the future decarbonized energy system.
PV deployment will soon
enter the terawatt-regime, which is needed for big global impact. The
long-term installed PV capacity in different scenarios still varies, but
there is increasing consensus that several tens or even more than fifty
terawatts are needed to meet necessary climate targets and will be
installed in the coming decades. Although the global PV manufacturing side
of the sector may cater such growth if technology and sustainability
related challenges are addressed in time, the application side requires a
broader range of solutions than available at competitive costs so
are proud to announce that the preparations for the Opening
Ceremony of the EU PVSEC 2021 are in full swing and will
offer an energetic line-up that is well worth seeing.
It brings together the knowledge of researchers, industry leaders and
policy makers who will come together in September to
promote the role of PV in the global energy transition and its importance
in achieving the goals of the European Green Deal.

The International Solar Association (ISA) is recognizing and rewarding
the most innovative, scalable and replicable works accomplished in the
field of solar energy, that have led to solutions and approaches with a
potential to move the world towards a sustainable, low-carbon future. The
Solar Awards 2021 are divided into four different categories and will be
given to individuals, scientists, nodal agencies and organizations in the
field of solar technology in ISA member countries. The
application deadline ends on 19 July 2021.

The 3-day conference is co-organized by EU funded HORIZON 2020 PV
projects GoPV, HighLite, HIPERION, SUPER PV. With Europe’s leading solar
research institutes and key industrial stakeholders involved, the event
will provide background on the latest solar research in Europe on solar
cell, module, and system designs as well as manufacturing in order to
show how LCOE on the system side can be further reduced. Register now.
