EU PVSEC 2021 comes to a successful end
38th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference has come to an end,
welcoming more than 1300 participants and covering an astonishing number
of over 800 live presentations, consisting of Scientific Sessions,
engaging Panel Discussions, in-depth Parallel Events and market related
We would like to thank the PV community for joining the EU PVSEC in its
virtual edition for the second year in a row. Even though we would have
preferred to meet in person, we were happy to see familiar as well as
new faces on our screens.
Thank you to all speakers, chairpersons, attendees and operators for
your hard work, your loyalty and your support! Together with you, we
made the EU PVSEC 2021 online a great success.

Solar has the green light to
power the energy transition
have the green light.” With this positive message for the PV industry
Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, has opened the 38th
European PV Solar Energy Conference. In her keynote speech Commissioner
Simson emphasised that the Commission is “ready to speed up, scale up and invest in solar PV”.
On the road to net zero 2050, the PV industry will play a key role in
driving to fulfil the ambitious climate targets of the Commission.
Simson underlined that the EU is working on creating the right political
framework conditions as well as on investment perspectives.
range of topics have been covered during the EU PVSEC, that was chaired
by Prof. João M Serra from the University of Lisbon, from basic device
concepts, through manufacturing, existing and new applications (bifacial
modules, BIPV, VIPV, AgriPV), integration, finance, policy and social
Newly introduced this year were a series of topical panel discussions,
in which international experts discussed their views on the future
developments. These included the ultimate possibilities for crystalline
silicon, the currently dominating technology, and concluded that there
are still efficiency improvements to come, and it will remain the
dominant technology for some years. Tandem devices, were also discussed
and there is a strong belief that they will come to dominate, but
towards the end of this decade. The first generation is likely to be
composed of perovskite on a silicon substrate, thereby allowing a more
straightforward transition. Other discussions looked at digitalization,
sustainability and steps that need to be taken now to accelerate the
energy transition to 100% renewable, including the role of storage and
“We are fighting for a leading position in solar PV”
Although the EU’s position has fallen behind in the global ranking,
Europe is still leading in solar technology R&D and hosting some of
the most advanced companies along the solar value chain. Playing to
Europe’s strengths, such as equipment manufacturing, is key to taking
the PV industry in Europe even further.
Conference platform open for 3 months
many presentations and not enough time to follow them all? Don’t worry,
the entire content, including scientific Conference Sessions, Parallel
Events and Industry Presentations will be available for streaming for 3 months
after the event.
The networking lounge as well as the private chat will stay open so you
can get in touch with fellow participants via the platform.
So sit back, take your time and enjoy the comprehensive knowledge the EU PVSEC
has to offer at your own pace.
EU PVSEC / WCPEC 2022
The 8th World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion
will take place from 26 – 30 September 2022
in the beautiful city of Milan
Europe has the honour to host this prestigious event, that takes place
every four years and combines the world’s three largest PV conferences,
the European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference (EU PVSEC), the
Photovoltaic Specialists Conference (IEEE PVSC) and the International PV
Science and Engineering Conference (PVSEC).
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Alessandra Scognamiglio
senior researcher with many years of experience in the use of
photovoltaics and buildings, and coordinator of the task force
“Sustainable Agrivoltaics” at ENEA, is appointed as the General Chair of
the WCPEC 2022.
We are delighted to welcome her in this position for the World
Conference and are confident, that she will lead us into a memorable
event in 2022.
We are looking forward to seeing you all again in person from 26 – 30 September 2022 in Milan, Italy
Message from General Chair Dr. Alessandra Scognamiglio
Photovoltaics: An energy source for all cultures
Italy is one of the countries in Europe with ambitious renewable energy
targets regarding photovoltaics, but also the one with the highest
density of UNESCO heritage sites. Along with increasing area
requirements of ever larger photovoltaic power plants, we witness often
that this new and clean energy technology is in contraposition to
landscape preservation and cultural heritage.
would very much like this conference to offer a unique occasion for
also showing how photovoltaic technology and landscape preservation can
go hand in hand, if trans-disciplinary visions are shared and
appropriate solutions are selected for capturing the beauty and the
adaptability of photovoltaic technology and enabling a landscape
transformation which is sustainable if we manage it by means of
appropriate design strategies.
We thank our Sponors
