Introduction Topic 3 “Perovskites, other Non-Silicon-Based Photovoltaics and Multi-Junction Devices”


Let us introduce you to Topic 3 “Perovskites, other Non-Silicon-Based Photovoltaics and Multi-Junction Devices” today:


Topic 3 addresses the wide range of technologies beyond crystalline Silicon. Even though the current market share of these technologies only accounts for about 5%, it is not only a driver of low-cost production but also a very active and successful research field. It is continuing due to the surprising progress in efficiency of Perovskites solar cells, which achieved on a laboratory scale already around 20% after only a couple of years. With 21 oral presentations the Perovskites take the lead in the coverage of Topic 3 at EU PVSEC2019, closely followed by CIGS technologies.


The majority of presentations on Perovskites deal with heterostructures like Perovskite-Silicon Tandems. The plenary presentation “Towards Highly Efficient Monolithic Tandem Devices with Perovskite Top Cells” [3CP.1.2] gives guidance on how to boost Perovskite tandem efficiency to values above 30%, by integrating perovskite top-cells monolithically on top of CIGS bottom cells. The authors will show in this presentation how they succeeded to reduce the current mismatch when the device is exposed to the standard AM 1.5 solar spectrum.

Parallel Event: “Probabilistic PV production forecasts: technics and use-cases”


Furthermore, to complete your experience at EU PVSEC we offer a wide selection of Parallel Events. As part of our detailed description we would like to introduce you to “Probabilistic PV production forecasts: technics and use-cases” organised by IEA PVPS with speakers from – amongst other – Reuniwatt, Fraunhofer, the University of La Réunion and Meteotest AG. This workshop aims at giving you an introduction to probabilistic forecasts for solar energy as well as showcasing examples of existing forecasts and how to implement them.

Parallel Event: “Standardization of the protocols for a reliable characterization of emerging PV technologies”


The Parallel Event called “Standardization of the protocols for a reliable characterization of emerging PV technologies” organised by EC Joint Research Centre has the purpose of introducing you to the most relevant works done in the development of measurement guidelines for a reliable characterization of emerging PV technologies. A strong focus will be set on how material research labs, testing labs and industrial project partners can benefit from a common approach. The present questions around the application of existing IEC standards to innovative PV devices as well as critical issues that are not covered by the current version will be addressed.
