Preview on Topic 6: PV Applications and Integration

We are excited to continue presenting some of the highlights of our conference programme – today Topic 6 “PV Applications and Integration” will be brought to you in more detail.

This topic presents the application side of PV and reaches far beyond the purely technical components of a PV system. In 2019, the EU PVSEC has increased the number of presentations in this topic. The decreasing costs of PV Generation open more applications which haven’t been cost-effective in the past and therefore not pursued.

During Friday’s Plenary session 6EP.1 there will be two keynotes showcasing the services PV can deliver to all citizens. The first one titled “Solar Electricity and Safe Drinking Water: Global Opportunities and Challenges” is about the solutions PV can provide for a global problem of increasing impact: The production, upgrade and distribution of water for people and agriculture.

Parallel Events

A preliminary overview of all parallel events is available.

To inform you about our complimentary range of parallel events we will introduce you in the following weeks to the various workshops and presentations organised by EU PVSEC and our partners. All of them address current challenges, topics and applications for photovoltaic technologies and are relevant to researchers, scientists, students, professionals, policy-makers and industry-leaders in the photovoltaic sector.

“Trends in PV Development: Self-consumption and Innovative Distributed Applications” organised by IEA PVPS and IRENA

Self-consumption policies are evolving towards more complex and decentralized regulations allowing collective and virtual self-consumption, while innovative business models allow to rethink electricity production and consumption.

This event will first discuss the development of the PV market, and the impact of policies on the speed at which PV could develop. It addresses questions such as e.g. will policies continue to shape the market and especially long-term targets? How are self-consumption policies developing and what does that mean for the energy transition? Are electricity markets adapted?

It is structured in 2 sessions – Session 1 talking about the current in innovative PV policies for self-consumption and Session 2 addressing the topic of Innovative Distributed Applications for PV, Smart Buildings and Electric Mobility.

“Advanced PV energy rating for emerging technologies” organised by the PV-ENERATE project and EURAMET EMPIR programme

The IEC 61853 standards series provides a framework for the energy rating of traditionally mounted PV modules. Today stakeholders have identified a need to extend the energy rating to emerging technologies (bi-facial) or applications (BIPV). This implies the implementation of the metrological infrastructure and techniques to improve the measurement equipment and methodologies, to enable precise measurements of the parameters required for the energy rating.

If you are interested in these topics, you are invited to present your works on the following subjects:

  • Improvement in the energy rating evaluation
  • Development of traceable measurement methods
  • Definition of testing conditions for the measurement of power and short-circuit current
  • Evaluation of the measurement uncertainty including the spectral mismatch correction taking into account the correlation of the spectral data
