1. How to prepare your presentation: Notes for Authors of Plenary, Oral and Visual Presentations

Please download here the detailed instructions for the preparation and submission of your Plenary, Oral or Visual Presentation to be presented on site at the Conference in Marseille.

2. How to submit your presentation

Authors of visual presentations are requested to bring the poster with them and to set them up on the allotted boards.

Authors of Oral, Plenary and Keynote presentations should hand in their presentations for projection at the Presenters’ Desk on site at least two hours prior to the beginning of the session of their presentation.

3. How to prepare your paper for publication in the Conference proceedings: Instructions

The Instructions below (for download) include important information on how to prepare and submit your manuscripts. Please read the notes carefully, and follow them precisely. Your paper must be written in English. The layout of your paper should be exactly the same as the master document "Instructions for Preparation of Papers" below.

To write your paper, save the document with a new name (use your session code as the name for the document) and use it as a guide and template. Substitute the text with the text of your paper without changing the layout.

Do not change font type and size, line spacing, page margins and the structure of this document. Do not insert page numbers and page headers/footers. Ignoring these instructions might cause problems and delays in the publication of the Conference Proceedings.

4. How to submit your paper for publication in the Conference Proceedings

Your original paper has to be submitted online between 2nd-12th September 2019 to your user area.

Only corresponding authors of each submission may upload final manuscripts. This means that the corresponding author is the only author from each paper that is able to complete the submission (as is the case for abstract submission). If the manuscript is not made available during this period, your paper cannot be published in the Conference Proceedings.

The document must be submitted in both Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat PDF formats.

To upload the paper just follow the step-by-step procedures provided in the user area and complete the mandatory electronic Copyright Transfer Agreement as one of the steps of the online submission. The Copyright Transfer Agreement is compulsory and can only be carried out electronically. During the submission of your paper, you will be taken automatically to the EU PVSEC electronic copyright form. Your paper submission will not be complete and therefore cannot be published without the electronic copyright submission.

 

5. Do you want your presentation published in the conference proceedings?

In addition to the manuscripts, the EU PVSEC Conference Proceedings contain the slides of keynote, plenary, oral presentations and posters of visual presentations in PDF (Portable Document Format). If you wish to publish your presentations in the Conference Proceedings, please submit them online between 2nd-12th September 2019 to your user area at (https://userarea.photovoltaic-conference.com) and complete the mandatory electronic Copyright Transfer Agreement as one of the steps of the online submission. The Copyright Transfer Agreement is compulsory and can only be carried out electronically. During the submission of your presentation, you will be taken automatically to the EU PVSEC electronic copyright form. Your presentation submission will not be complete and therefore cannot be published without the electronic copyright submission.

Note for oral, plenary and keynote presentations: Kindly note that handing in your presentation for projection at the Presenters’ Desk does not imply publishing them in the conference proceedings. If you wish to have your presentation published in the EU PVSEC Conference Proceedings, you have to upload the pdf version in your user area.

6. Registration of Presenters/Authors

Presenters and authors have to register for the Conference and to pay the respective conference registration fee. Please note that acceptance of your abstract for presentation in the Conference Programme, does not automatically register you for the Conference.

Papers can only be published in the Conference proceedings if they were presented during the conference and at least one of the authors (presenter) is duly registered.

Abstracts (in the format of 1 page + up to 3 explanatory pages) shall be written in English and include short sections addressing:

  • Aim and approach used
  • Scientific innovation and relevance
  • Results or preliminary results and conclusions

This information provides the basis for the review and programme selection process, so please make sure to address all three aspects. Please include a brief justification of the choice of subtopic to assist the evaluation process.
Authors also need to provide:

  • Applicable topic and sub-topic number (e.g. 1.2) and a brief justification of the choice of subtopic to assist the evaluation process.
  • Full paper title
  • Full name, affiliation, address, e-mail and phone of one author for all correspondence
  • For all other authors, full name, affiliation and e-mail

3. HOW IS MY ABSTRACT EVALUATED?

     1. Abstract Review Process and Notification of Authors
The international Scientific Committee, made up of 231 leading experts from the global PV community, will review all abstracts that have been submitted on time and in the correct format, and suggest contributions for oral or for visual/poster presentation.
The main selection criteria are:

  • clearly understandable and direct to the point

advancement in terms of progress and novelty

scientific quality as well as the probability of a good presentation at the conference

If positively evaluated by the Scientific Committee, the abstract will be selected for Plenary, Oral or Visual/poster presentation. Plenaries and Oral presentations are reserved for contributions covering a wider scope which are of interest to a broader audience and address the progress and novelties within the topic. Visual/poster presentations are mostly dedicated to issues of interest for specialists in a particular field.

Corresponding authors will be notified of the outcome of their abstract’s evaluation by email by mid-April 2019.

PV and beyond

I am pleased to invite all people working in related fields to submit abstracts to The European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference, to be held in Marseille, 9-13 September 2019. EUPVSEC continues to be the leading platform for the global PV community to meet and share ideas. Our wish is to further expand its relevance in not only sharing and developing technical knowledge, but also to explore together how large quantities of renewable, especially PV power, is to be integrated into the present and future energy network.

A number of further enhancements to the Topics and descriptions have been made for the 2019 edition, so I invite all authors to carefully read the topic descriptions and select the one which most closely matches where the key novelty of their work lies. The purpose of the topic structure is to ensure authors, reviewers and delegates most easily find their areas of interest within the broad range on offer.

It goes without saying that the EUPVSEC will continue to showcase the most recent developments in concepts, materials and applications. From the perspective of materials and device, we have added topics to encourage further input in the fields of perovskite materials and tandem device concepts. At the system scale, we have included a supplementary topic on storage. We also encourage submissions related to grid integration issues, including from utilities and operators of other intermittent power sources, aiming to promote knowledge transfer.

The opportunity to share your work with and learn from a large gathering of your fellow experts over a broad range of topics is unique to the EU PVSEC. Your contribution is essential to ensure the highest quality programme and I warmly invite you to submit your abstract to the review process and to plan to come and join us in Marseille next September.

EU PVSEC Student Award 2019 application process and Call for Papers open now!homebuttons prizesawards

To encourage high-quality work amongst young researchers, on the occasion of the EU PVSEC 2019 the EU PVSEC Student Awards will be delivered in recognition of the most remarkable and outstanding research work in the field of PV. The Scientific Committee may nominate up to 7 awardees among the Conference Subjects.

In order to apply for the EU PVSEC Student Awards applicants must:

  • be officially matriculated students, including PhD students, at the date of 15 February 2019
  • submit an abstract (in the format of one page + up to 3 explanatory pages) to the EU PVSEC via the User Area of this website by 15 February 2019
  • upload in addition to the abstract a letter of recommendation stating the name of the applicant and the institution where the research work is supervised, confirming that the applicant is an officially matriculated student at this institution. Recommendations should include a report of one A4 page that outlines how the research work will make an outstanding contribution to the discipline and what the specific contribution of the applicant is. The report can only be made by a student's supervisor(s) or head of department.

This Topic Description for the 2019 EU PVSEC implements some changes in the Topic description which reflect the widening scope of the conference. In order to help and assist you in deciding to submit a contribution for this conference, we provide you with some explanations and clarifications, in particular in the new or re-arranged topics.

  TOPIC 1: New Materials and Concepts for Photovoltaic Devices

This is traditionally the topic where the ongoing front-end research is presented. It is the right place for contributions to the understanding of photovoltaic conversion, including in new or exotic materials and cross-fertilisation with other fields of optoelectronics

1.1 Fundamental Studies
Theoretical studies of materials, cells and modules; new measurement techniques, modelling and simulation.

This subtopic comprises all theoretical work on photovoltaic conversion and particular measurement techniques to reveal e.g atomic structures or electronic properties.

1.2 New Materials and Concepts for Cells and Modules
New cell materials and concepts, e.g use of nanotechnologies and quantum effects. New module materials and concepts.

Here we usually place papers which typically describe activities of labs realising new material and concepts usually on a more fundamental or prototype level.

  TOPIC 2: Silicon Materials and Cells

Topic 2 collects all presentations which deal with crystalline silicon up to cell level. The whole spectrum of Si technology is divided into 6 subtopics, which address typical issues and fields of technology development which many of them dealt with on a corporate R&D level. Contributions which focus on Si module encapsulation and reliability, or electrical performance measurement technologies are better placed in topic 4.1

2.1 Feedstock, Crystallisation, Wafering, Defect Engineering
Novel and advanced production technologies for silicon, ingots and wafers, solar-grade silicon properties and specifications, testing, performance, costs. Influence of crystallisation parameters, impact of residual defects and impurities, and their mitigation.

2.2 Homojunction Solar Cells
PERx, IBC and other: advanced solar cell architectures for higher efficiency, surface and contact passivation and metallisation.

2.3 Heterojunction Solar Cells
Advanced heterojunction solar cell architectures for higher efficiency, new processes and materials for junction formation, surface and contact passivation and metallisation.

2.4 Thin Film and Foil-Based Si Solar Cells
Amorphous and microcrystalline silicon, thin crystalline silicon, silicon foils (<20µm): theoretical studies, innovation in processing and manufacturing technologies, manufacturing up-scaling.

2.5 Characterisation & Simulation of Si Cells
Measurement and modelling of innovative Si cell concepts.

2.6 Manufacturing & Production of Si Cells
Novel or improved manufacturing solutions and strategies, automated production processes and systems; quality and reliability in production.

  TOPIC 3: Perovskites, Other Non-Silicon-Based Photovoltaics, and Multi-Junction Devices

This newly formulated Topic is subdivided amongst the different photovoltaic materials in use today or in the demonstration phase, that are not crystalline Silicon. It comprises all theoretical studies, innovations in processing and manufacturing technologies and upscaling, measurement and characterisation, modelling. If the paper describes the encapsulation on a module level, it probably is better presented under 4.1. For materials which don’t fall under any of those listed here you should consider Topic 1.

3.1 Perovskites Based Photovoltaics
Perovskite materials and perovskite-based devices, Manufacturing and up-scaling technologies and strategies, quality and reliability in production

3.2 CI(G)S, CdTe and Related Thin Film Solar Cells
Devices, materials, surfaces/interfaces and contacts, processing and manufacturing technologies, measurement and characterisation, modelling.

3.3 Organic and Dye-Sensitised Devices
Polymer, organic and dye-sensitised cells and devices, manufacturing and up-scaling technologies and strategies, quality control, lifetime and reliability.

3.4 III-V and Related Compound Semiconductor Based Devices
Novel cell architectures, materials, technologies and processing for III-V single and multi-junction cells. Electrical characterisation and modelling of cells.

3.5 Tandems
Hybrid tandems and other devices; with Si or other materials as substrate, Perovskite, microcrystalline, amorphous and other tandem absorbers.

Here is a new topic bringing together the increasing research into tandem structures combining a wide variety of materials. In the first instance this envisages structures on silicon substrates, but all other combinations are welcome.

  TOPIC 4: Photovoltaic Modules and BoS Components

This Topic addresses all the components required to form a complete system. Papers presented under this topic regard research, development, design, measurement, testing, operational experience and disposal of these components.

4.1 PV Module Design, Manufacture, Performance and Reliability
PV module design, module manufacturing processes. Type approval testing, degradation, ageing and lifetime; new and improved measurement and characterisation methods, correlation between laboratory testing and field performance, energy yield, energy rating.

This is the place for all work regarding making a PV device fit for prolonged outdoor exposure, including methods for characterisation, independently of the particular device active material. New module designs and hybrid technologies are also welcomed here.

4.2 Inverters and Balance of System Components
Inverters, micro-inverters, power optimisers, power electronics developments, monitoring systems, accumulators, charge regulators, safety switches, mounting structures, trackers, cabling, including measurements and testing of performance and reliability.

This Topic addresses the device-level of these components, and less their interaction within a PV system. The performance and reliability part includes operational performance, testing standards and measurement protocols. Regarding accumulators, see also Topic 5.4, which focuses on the operation of storage technologies within a PV system.

4.3 Sustainability and Recycling
Safety and environmental issues; life-cycle analysis of modules and systems, CO2 footprint, water use, sustainability of materials, customised products and sustainable design, product regulation concepts, recycling and waste management, decommissioning, PV in the circular economy, raw material availability, resource efficiency and material flows.

As a renewable energy solution PV must also address concerns about its environmental impact. This topic specifically calls for papers from environmental science and engineering, health experts for safety at work but also socio-economists dealing with the circular economy. Presentations on resource use and efficiency are invited, including Life Cycle Analysis.

  TOPIC 5: PV Systems and Storage – Modelling, Design, Operation and Performance

This Topic addresses a PV system as a complete entity. Consequently, this is the place for contributions on systems design, sizing, modelling and performance as an electricity system.

5.1 Solar Resource and Forecasting
Solar resource assessment, measurements and monitoring, meteorological forecasting, now-casting, analysis of ground station and satellite data.

Abstracts which deal with all PV relevant solar radiation science are placed here.

5.2 Design and Installation of PV Systems
Planning, plant optimization tools, cost analyses, advanced installation criteria, construction and safety issues; micro-grids and grid interfacing.

This is the topic for the design, engineering and commercialisation of entire PV systems.

5.3 Operation, Performance and Maintenance of PV Systems
Monitoring, predictive and corrective maintenance, system failure analysis, system reliability, operational safety.

Papers which describe the operational experience of systems in use are placed here. Of particular interest are maintenance related cost analyses as well as methods for predicting technical lifetimes.

5.4 Storage
Technology and engineering of storage systems for PV electricity: accumulators, supercapacitors, heat/cold, pumped hydro, seasonal storage, including sizing, operation and performance of such storage to improve the overall service of the PV System, including for PV-only stand-alone systems.

In this topic the wide spectrum of PV storage systems is addressed on a systems level. We are considering papers which describe the technical relation and interaction between PV generation and storage/conversion, aimed to optimise the “dispatchability” and service function of PV system, including stand-alone systems. This includes conversion of PV electricity into other energy carriers (Power to X). See also topic 4.2, which focuses on the technology of accumulators.

5.5 Concentrators and PV for Space Applications
Design and measurement of concentrator solar cells, assemblies and CPV modules. Optical systems, mounting structures and trackers; Thermal Photovoltaic Conversion (TPV). Photovoltaic cells and systems for space photovoltaics, and their in-flight performance.

The areas of CPV and Space applications and TPV now appear under the topic heading of “PV Systems”. This signals synergies between the systemic aspects of space photovoltaics and terrestrial systems. In a similar consideration, concentrator systems design and operation is placed under this heading. For both space and concentrator technologies, the device (cell) level is placed in topic 3, in particular 3.4 for III-V based cells.

  TOPIC 6: PV Applications and Integration

6.1 PV on/in Buildings, Infrastructure, Landscape, Water and Nature
Design, architectural and landscape aspects; zero energy buildings; PV products for buildings: electric and thermal performance, safety aspects, integrated mounting structures, multi-functionality; building, environment and other regulatory aspects; PV in roads and other transport infrastructures, on Water, in Agriculture and in Nature.

This topic will collect all presentations describing how PV system appear as an infrastructure in other infrastructures, but also in the nature and environment which surround us.

6.2 Professional Applications of PV
Dedicated and hybrid applications, e.g. PV-to-gas/fuels including hydrogen production. Water desalination, sterilization and upgrading; PV on vehicles; other novel applications in industrial processes; PV thermal systems; PV and heat pumps.

As costs of PV systems continue to decrease, this topic presents applications which now become economically viable and reach out into services, including in the renewable heat sector.

6.3 PV Driven Energy Management and System Integration
Energy management including modelling of integrated supply- demand systems, digital monitoring, control, forecast and dispatch including with electromobility; self-consumption; ICT integration including (cyber) security.

This topic comprises the systemic approach to integrate and balance supply and demand. This would not only be restricted to storage, also hybrid systems with auxiliary generators, biomass CHP or Heat Pumps are part of the integrated systems. Experience from other renewable and grid operators are welcome in this topic.

  TOPIC 7: Finance, Markets and Policies

7.1 Costs, Economics, Finance and Markets
Cost models and cost reduction, soft and area related costs; competitiveness, economics of, and business models for PV and storage/conversion (P2X); PPAs, financing and investment; market development and segmentation; market design for PV as dispatchable power and electricity market participation and integration; utility scale development, prosumer aspects and digitalisation.

In this subtopic we address market analysts, project developers and business experts from finance, and investment and utilities. It covers the more non-technical aspects of installing and dispatching PV electricity, new scenarios and the market conditions required to make them happen as well as analysis of present market development and trends.

7.2 Policies and Scenarios for Renewables, Societal and Global Challenges
Modelling and scenario analysis; cross-fertilisation with other renewable energy systems; Policies for R&D, innovation and deployment; trade barriers, regulatory frameworks for grid integration; education, training and job creation; PV impacts on society and global challenges like sustainability, global change and poverty alleviation. Upscaling of PV and deployment at TW scale.

This is the subtopic for advisors for policymaking, energy-law experts, media communicators, but also teachers and communicators. The more global aspects solicit papers from large, often collaborative efforts to analyse the role of PV in a larger context, often related to energy modelling or scenario analysis. Projecting PV towards 2030, 2050 and comparing the calculations are typical subjects in this subtopic, as well as the relation of PV to greater policy efforts in the worlds regions, or international agreements, including UN Sustainable Development Goals and IPPC.

This page contains the guidelines for the submission of abstracts to the EU PVSEC Conference.

1. CONTENT AND FORMAT OF YOUR ABSTRACT

Abstracts (in the format of 1 page + up to 3 explanatory pages) shall be written in English and must include the following sections addressing:

  • Aim and approach used
  • Scientific innovation and relevance
  • Results or preliminary results and conclusions

Authors also need to provide:

  • Applicable topic and sub-topic number (e.g. 1.2) and a brief justification of the choice of subtopic to assist the evaluation process.
  • Full paper title
  • Full name, affiliation, address, e-mail and phone of one author for all correspondence
  • For all other authors, full name, affiliation and e-mail

The total length should not be more than four A4 pages

2. HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACT

  1. Use the “Online Abstract Submission tool” in the User Area for easy and fast submission of your abstracts.
  2. Abstracts must be submitted by the deadline (15 February 2019).
  3. During online submission, the correct subtopic must be selected to ensure a correct scoring. The abstract content must be related to the subtopic chosen. During the review period, the Scientific Committee may move an abstract to a more appropriate subtopic, if deemed necessary. See list of Conference Topics.
  4. Upload your abstract in PDF format. Please make sure that your abstract *.pdf is not password protected.
  5. The person logged-in in the User Area is automatically set as corresponding partner for the abstract. Therefore, please log-in as the person wishing to be the corresponding author (contact person) for the abstract submission (please use the corresponding author’s user name and password, e.g. no secretary log-in).
  6. You will receive an automatic email notification after successful abstract submission. 3. HOW IS MY ABSTRACT EVALUATED?

     1. Abstract Review Process and Notification of Authors
The international Scientific Committee, made up of around 200 leading experts from the global PV community, will review all abstracts that have been submitted on time and in the correct format, and suggest contributions for oral or for visual/poster presentation.

scientific quality as well as the probability of a good presentation at the conference

If positively evaluated by the Scientific Committee, the abstract will be selected for Plenary, Oral or Visual/poster presentation. Plenaries and Oral presentations are reserved for contributions covering a wider scope which are of interest to a broader audience and address the progress and novelties within the topic. Visual/poster presentations are mostly dedicated to issues of interest for specialists in a particular field.

Corresponding authors will be notified of the outcome of their abstract’s evaluation by email by mid-April 2019.

Visual/Poster Presentation
Presentation through poster displayed during 4 days (Monday – Thursday) of the Conference. During Visual presentation sessions, authors of posters are requested to be present at their posters at the time indicated in the Conference Programme. This will give all delegates the opportunity for direct interaction, questions and discussion.

After the notification of authors, the Notes for Authors and Instructions for Preparation of Papers will be available online. These documents contain important information on how to prepare your presentation and your manuscript to be included in the Conference Proceedings.

Conference Proceedings / Citability of Papers

All accepted papers of plenary, oral and visual presentations will be published online on the EU PVSEC Proceedings website. The proceedings are indexed by INSPEC.

Papers in the conference proceedings are coded by a digital identifier (DOI code) provided by the German National Library of Science and Technology. This guarantees an unequivocal and permanent identification and citability.


Scientific Journal Publication

The Scientific Committee selects a limited number of abstracts from each Conference Subject that will be invited to be peer reviewed for possible publication by a high impact journal. This publication will be in addition to the publication in the Conference Proceedings of the EU PVSEC 2019.

 

 

 

 

Cooperation with Progress in Photovoltaics

In 2019, Progress in Photovoltaics once again proudly partners with the EU PVSEC. Through the partnership, selected research papers from the event will be published in Progress in Photovoltaics, the high impact, international journal for the latest research in photovoltaic technology.

The EU PVEC 2019 Scientific Committee will select a number of abstracts that will be invited to be peer reviewed for potential publication by the renowned scientific journal Progress in Photovoltaics. This publication will be in addition to the publication in the Conference Proceedings of the EU PVSEC 2019 so selected authors submit the paper both to Progress in Photovoltaics and to the EU PVSEC.

If you would like your abstract to be considered for inclusion in the Journal Publication/Peer Review Process please tick the corresponding box in the User Area during submission. Please note that if selected, a full paper will need to be supplied well in advance of the conference. Kindly also note that only abstracts with a minimum of 3-4 pages are eligible.

The procedure is currently scheduled as follows:

  • 8 February 2019: Deadline for Submission of abstracts to the EU PVSEC 2019
  • From mid-April 2019: Notification of acceptance and invitation to the Peer Review Process/Journal publication.
  • 30 June 2019: Deadline for Submission of the Final Paper to Progress in Photovoltaics for Peer Review
  • From July 2019: Notification of Authors by Progress in Photovoltaics
  • Aug. / Sept. 2019: Revision Deadline (if required)
  • October 2019: Final Approved Manuscripts accepted online

Publication of papers in the Conference Proceedings and in Progress in Photovoltaics is scheduled after the EU PVSEC 2019.

Call for Papers - Abstract Submission

Authors wishing to contribute to the Conference Programme of the EU PVSEC 2019, 9-13 September 2019, Marseille, France, should submit an abstract at the latest by 15 February 2019. Authors are invited to carefully read the topic descriptions and select the topic and subtopic which most closely matches the key novelty of their work. Please note that some topic areas have been renumbered and restructured. The subtopic descriptions are brief and non-exhaustive, while at the same time self-explanatory so that locating the correct area is straightforward. Abstracts (in the format of 1 page + up to 3 explanatory pages) shall be written in English and must include the following sections addressing:

  • Scientific innovation and relevance
  • Results or preliminary results and conclusions

Only abstracts complying with the "Abstract Submission Guidelines" can be considered. Please submit one copy of this information as a *.pdf file by using the Online Abstract Submission tool in the User Area.

Each abstract will be reviewed by at least three independent experts from the international PV research community. Accepted papers will be presented in either plenary, oral or visual poster sessions. Authors will be notified of the decision of the Scientific Committee by mid-April 2019.
