Press Release 28th June 2010

25th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition / 5th World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion - Clearing the Way towards 2020

•    Detailed Conference Programme available online
•    76 Sessions with 31 Plenary, 312 Oral, and 1,300 Visual Poster Presentations

Munich, 28 June 2010 – The 25th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition / 5th World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion (25th EU PVSEC / WCPEC-5) has published the Conference Programme for the event taking place in Valencia, Spain, from 6-10 September 2010 (Conference 6-10 September 2010 - Exhibition 6-9 September 2010). Following the abstract review process, the International Scientific Committee, made up of 153 representatives from the global scientific community, has composed the comprehensive programme. The soaring number of 76 Sessions with 31 Plenary, 312 Oral, and 1,300 Visual Poster Presentations takes this leading international PV conference to a new level.

The Conference Programme for the 25th EU PVSEC / WCPEC-5 will include presentations on

•    Advanced Photovoltaics: New Concepts and Ultra-High Efficiency
•    Wafer-Based Silicon Solar Cells and Materials Technology
•    Thin Film Solar Cells
•    Components for PV Systems
•    PV Systems
•    PV Taking Off: Large-Scale Deployment

The topic “Advanced Photovoltaics”, for instance, will show new concepts for photovoltaics and map out the way towards ultra-high efficiency solar cells for the technology of tomorrow and for reaching the 2020 renewables targets. The European Union has set the goal of covering 20% of its energy demand from renewable sources by the end of this decade. The EU Member States have to decide now on the implementation of their renewable energy action plans for the next 10 years. Similarly ambitious plans are being brought forward in the US, Japan (Revision Basic Energy Plan), China (New Energy Development Plan) and India (National Solar Mission), ensuring continued innovation and strong global growth rates for PV in the coming years.

One special focus of the 25th EU PVSEC / WCPEC-5 will be on how to reach these challenging Renewable Energies targets. The 25th EU PVSEC / WCPEC-5 will provide the best platform to present and discuss the latest progress in solar cell development and manufacturing. Perspectives, of how massive deployment of photovoltaic systems will look like in 10 years and beyond, will be outlined.

The Scientific Conference Programme will be complemented by the 7th European PV Industry Summit (in cooperation with the European Photovoltaic Industry Association EPIA), the PV Production Forum 2010 (in cooperation with the International Photovoltaic Equipment Association IPVEA), and the TPV-9 Conference on thermo photovoltaic generation of electricity.

The WCPEC-5 will bring together the three most important global scientific and strategic PV Conferences: the 25th EU PVSEC, the 36th US IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference and the 20th Asia/Pacific PV Science and Engineering Conference. Together with the EU PVSEC’s PV Industry Exhibition, this unique PV solar gathering will constitute the world’s leading science-to-science, business-to-business and science-to-industry forum for the global PV Solar sector.

Background:
For many years now, the European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (EU PVSEC) has combined a respected international scientific conference with a renowned PV Industry Exhibition and trade fair. Over 5 days of conference and 4 days of trade fair, new products and technical innovations from all areas of photovoltaics and from all over the world are on show.

This global PV solar event is supported by European and international organisations such as the European Commission, UNESCO - United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation - Natural Sciences Sector, WCRE - World Council for Renewable Energy, the International Photovoltaic Equipment Association (IPVEA) and by a close institutional cooperation with the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA). The Technical Programme is coordinated by the European Commission, DG Joint Research Centre.
